The Going to the Sun Highway was closed at the Jackson Glacier Lookout, which leaves 4 miles to hike to the pass.
So, when the road is closed, we do what any other ski diehard would do... we put our skis on our pack and started hiking.
What was really frustrating was the road was dry all the way through the tunnel and to the big drift.
Speaking of the Big Drift, the snow wall was about 30ft. That's a lot of snow. You could really do a great snow pit
analysis here. The nice thing is that we were able to put our skis on here.
This is Blair approaching Hidden Pass. We knew we wouldn't be able to climb Bearhat, but while we were up there, we
figured we would explore the area and maybe find a shortcut down to Hidden Lake.
This is approaching Hidden Pass. In the background is Bearhat Mtn. On the left side of the picture, is the ridge between
Reynolds and Clement. That ridge usually provides good skiing.
This is a closer picture of Bearhat Mtn. You can also see that the weather is starting to come in from the west.
This is looking west from Hidden Pass. Here we see Blair looking for a shortcut down to Hidden Lake. We
actually got cliffed out every where we looked.
After giving up on finding a shortcut down to Hidden Lake, we decided to go bag some turns off the ridge between Reynolds
and Clement, but this time, we decided to traverse around the backside of it.
This is Hidden Lake and the lower slopes of Bearhat.
After some turns, we skied back down to the Big Drift and started hiking back to the truck. On our way, we
came across nine male sheep.
