Note for 29 Apr 06: I went with Blair Piggot and Brett Weisser as a day trip car to car. Overcast and warm all day. We carried our skis from the lake most of the way up the moraine. We eventually turned back because of avalanche conditions. Click here for a detailed trip report

Heading across Peyto Lake We started our trip with the all too familar trip across Peyto Lake. This is Blair, testing the ice for the rest of us. Blair doesn't weigh much, so he not much of a tester.

At the far end of Peyto Lake Here we are at the far end of Peyto Lake. There was an absense of snow across the gravel flats, so we put the skis on the pack and away we went. Unfortunately, we've become too familar with this move too.

Looking back across Peyto Lake This is looking back across Peyto Lake toward the highway. Notice the slushy conditions on the lake surface. This would prove to be a bit unnerving on the way back across in the afternoon.

Blair walking with his skis This is Blair heading across the gravel flats with his skis on his pack. Ideally, you'd like your skis to be on your feet.

Blair taking his skis off We had to carry our skis about half way up the moraine. We were then able to ski almost to top of the moraine, but had to take our skis off one more time. This is Blair taking his skis off again.

Brett coming up Looking back down behind us, you see Brett bringing up the rear.

Getting on the Wapta Here we are coming up the Peyto Glacier and getting onto the Wapta.

Going up Peyto Peak Now, we're heading for Peyto Peak. Unfortunately, the trip would end about half way up the slope. We turned around for avalanche concerns. We actually tried three different lines on the slope, but they were all too iffy.
