Note for 22 Jun 00: Solo hike. First peak of the day. I did the entire Hawkins Horseshoe, which took just under 9 hours including a 30 minute rest stop at each of the three summits. Temperature was 29°C (84°F) with very light winds. It was a hot day.

22 Jul 00 - Here we see the entire ascent route of Blakiston as seen from the summit of Lineham Peak. As Kane points out, the ascent isn't nearly as steep as the picture makes it look. Of course, in hind site, I think I went a little to the left of the route described by Kane. About half way up, I saw some snow toward the top, so given the heat of the day, I headed for the snow to cool off a bit. The green line shows the way to Mt. Hawkins, part of the Hawkins Horseshoe.

22 Jul 00 - To get to the peak, you hike the Lineham Falls trail. After 45 minutes or so, you come out of some dark forest to find the first view of Lineham Falls (seen here). In the background of this picture you can see Hawkins Ridge.

22 Jul 00 - Upon first seeing the waterfall, turn to your right, to find a runoff/avalanche gully. Take this gully right to the summit ridge. Notice how the ascent slope looks less steep here compared to the first picture.

22 Jul 00 - After you gain the ridge, turn to your right, and the summit cairn is right up the hill.

22 Jul 00 - From the summit, you have a huge view. Here, I have taken three photos and put them together in Photoshop to make a full panoramic view of Hawkins Horseshoe. For some reason, the color didn't come out the same.
