Note for 11 Jun 06: I went with Blair Piggot. Horrible weather at the start, but it got better. We skied about 2/3rds of the way up the mountain until it became too steep. We kicked steps up the rest to the NE summit. The true summit was unreachable from where we were. Click here for detailed report

Skiing up to Hidden Pass in a whiteout On this day, the weather was suppose to be iffy at best, but the window for Bearhat is so short, we decided to go for it anyway. Here we see Blair heading up to Hidden Pass. Great weather, eh?

Bearhat Mtn As we reached Hidden Pass, the clouds and fog began to lift, and we could start to see Bearhat Mtn.

Path down to Hidden Lake After reaching Hidden Pass, the next order of business is to get down to Hidden Lake. To do that, you have to ski all the way west to get around the cliffs. Then you can circle back to Hidden Lake.

Blair on the shore of Hidden Lake This is Blair on the shore of Hidden Lake. You can tell the crossing was going to be iffy. Parts of the lake was already thawed.

Bearhat Mtn We found a spot to cross Hidden Lake (seen here). Our ascent was the left skyline ridge. There is a snow gully just right of the skyline. That's where we ascended.

Skiing up Bearhat Mtn This is Blair zig-zagging his way up Bearhat. Soon after this picture, it becomes too steep to ski.

Looking back across Hidden Lake toward Reynolds Looking back across Hidden Lake toward Reynolds, you can see the weather turned bad again. It's snowing.

Blair climbing Bearhat Mtn Now we have ditched our skis and continuing the rest of the way on foot. This climb was a lot steeper than it looks in this picture.

Blair and Mt. Reynolds Soon after the snow blew it, it blew back out. The sun came out and it was time to put on sunscreen. That's Mt. Reynold's in the background. We scrambled up the right skyline back in 2003.

More Snow Slopes on Bearhat Mtn Lots and lots of snow slopes on this mountain.

Bearhat Mtn summit ridge Finally, we topped out on the summit ridge. This is looking north.

Bearhat Mtn summit ridge From the same spot as the previous picture, this is looking south (toward the true summit).

Bearhat Mtn South Summit This is Blair scrambling over to the real summit (the large mass in the centre of the picture). Unfortunately, we came up a little short. There is a deep notch between the south summit and the rest of the mountain, and given the wet black lichen, and we were wearing ski boots, we decided not to go for it.

Bearhat Mtn North Summit After giving up on the south summit, we decided to go for the north summit. The north summit is just a hike along the summit ridge.

Mtn Goat on Bearhat Mtn While traversing back to the north summit, we found a mountain goat.

Me at the north summit of Bearhat Mtn. Now it's my turn to pose for the camera.

Bearhat Mtn On our way back out, we got one last look at the mountain.

Hidden Pass Almost back up to Hidden Pass. Once we clear the pass, it's downhill to the parking lot. Mt. Clement is on the left, and Mt. Reynolds is on the right.
