Note for 02 Oct 04: This was the second peak in a three peak day. I went with Vern Dewit, and it was a great day, but pretty tiring. Awesome weather all day long. We started with The Fortress and ended with Mt. Shark that day. Click for the detailed trip report.

For Vern's perspective on the same trip, check out his page: http://www.fresh-oxygen.com/vern/scrambles/gusty/gusty.php

This is looking up the scree ramp, which leads to the Gusty summit. There are three main scree ramps leading to the summit ridge. Vern and I took the middle one up and then the lower one down.

This is Vern slogging up. For some reason, Vern and I hit an energy wall at the same time. This slope was a slog, but I think the bike ride back to the car at the end of the day helped give us new life.

This is a picture of Vern making his way up the summit ridge. The scrambling started to get better at this point because you were no longer on that slippery scree.

Gusty Peak offers great views of Mt. Galatea, seen here.

A little bit before the summit, is a small notch in the ridge. Here we see Vern looking back at me, wondering if I'm coming along.

This is looking back down the summit ridge with the southern Smith Dorrien in the background.

Here we see Vern at the summit with Mt. Assiniboine in the background.

This is Vern making his way down the scree slope leading back to the bowl between Fortress and Gusty. Vern and I were both wearing technical approach shoes for this three peak trip, and coming down scree slopes in those shoes is never a pleasure. Lots of bruised ankles that day.

This is Vern close to the bottom of the scree slope looking up at Fortress.

Soon after leaving the summit of Gusty, we were back at Chester Lake. What a beautiful area.

This is from the south end of Chester Lake looking up toward Mt. Galetea. Wonderful fall colours
