08 Sep 02 - Mt. Burstall is an excellent outting if you only have a few hours to spend. The final bit is a great scramble. Here we see Mt. Burstall as seen from the top of Commonwealth Peak across the valley. In the background, we have Mts. Cegnfs and Murray.

08 Sep 02 - After you walk along the Burstall Pass trail, you need to turn off where Alan suggests. You'll find an avalanche gully that leads to the low spot in the east ridge. This is a picture of where you head off. There's actually a trail and a cairn on the Burstall Pass trail that leads into the trees. Unfortunately, we didn't find it on the way up, but it was easily found on the way down.

08 Sep 02 - After a few minutes, we broke out of the trees and found ourselves grovelling up scree to reach the east ridge. Here we see Cory leading the way.

08 Sep 02 - We reached the col around the two hour mark. At this point, you're two thirds of the way there, and the scrambling gets much better. Just follow the ridge on your way to the summit. Initially, it's only moderate scrambling, but just before the summit, you encounter some difficult moves with a little bit of exposure..... nothing too bad though.

08 Sep 02 - This is just before the route gets tougher. Here we see Gerry leading the way with Cory right behind him.

08 Sep 02 - Looking back behind me, we see Keith coming up to the difficult section.

08 Sep 02 - Here we are in the middle of the difficult part, which again, really isn't tough. Here we see Gerry leading the way with Cory in second place.

08 Sep 02 - This is more of the crux just before the summit.

08 Sep 02 - Here I am at the summit with the French, Haig, Robertson Traverse behind me.

08 Sep 02 - From where I was standing in the last picture, I could see everybody acting busy around the summit cairn. There wasn't a register inside the cannister, but there was a photocopy of the scrambles book, so we signed that.

08 Sep 02 - After playing around on the summit, we decided to start heading back down. This is looking back down the ridge that we just came up. This wasn't too bad downclimbing.

08 Sep 02 - Once back at the col, it was time to enjoy the soft scree. Here we see Gerry (right) and Keith (left) racing down. They both fell near the bottom of the hill, and I got to see where they fell, so I avoided that spot.
