05 Jul 97 - Mt. St. Piran is one of the mountains that sit above Lake Louise. This mountain rests on the north west (right) side of Lake Louise and overlooks all three of the tiered lakes (Lake Louise, Mirror Lake, and Lake Agnes). It also provides a great view of the Bow Valley. As for the path to the summit, George and I deviated from the trail. The true Trail zig-zags up the side. George and I found a path where an avalanche had fallen, stripping out tress, etc. Although the route was much more direct, it was also much steeper.

05 Jul 97 - Here is a sample of the trail up. It was rather rocky, and the closer we got to the summit, the more we had to use our hands.

05 Jul 97 - Here we see George with Lake Louise in the back ground.

05 Jul 97 - Looking back, you can see Lake Louise, and if you look close enough, you can see the Chataeu. My car is down there somewhere.

05 Jul 97 - At one point along the trip up, you can see all three of the lakes. All three lakes are at different levels and actually feed each other. On the right is Lake Agnes. It still had ice on it. There is a small waterfall from Lake Agnes which goes down to Mirror Lake (a few hundred feet down). Approximately 500-800 feet down from Mirror Lake is Lake Louise. The large mound behind Lake Agnes is known as the Bee Hive. You can climb that too.

05 Jul 97 - On the way back down, we stopped by Lake Agnes and Mirror Lake. I took this picture of Mirror Lake to show how it got it's name. Pretty cool, huh.

05 Jul 97 - From the top of Mt. St. Piran, you can see Mt. LeFroy. It's a nice quick alpine climb done from Abott's Pass Hut. Check under my "Alpine Climbs" for more on that peak.

05 Jul 97 - As with most mountains, I come across some form of wildlife, and this mountain proved no different. Here we see a grouse. If you ask me, it looks like a pigeon.
