27 Jun 03 - This picture is on our way to our campground. We actually took a wrong turn
on our way to Aster Lake and we ended up having to go over the shoulder of Mt. Marlborough. While it
gave us a great view of where we would put our camp, the added height gain was rather disappointing.
Anyway, shown by the red dot, you can see that our campground was a great location.

27 Jun 03 - This is a picture of our camp. We had to get special permission from the Kananaskis
Conservation Officer to bivy above Aster Lake. We used a justification of having four peaks as our
objectives and as long as we agreed to take down our tents during the day, carry out our poop, etc,
they were okay with it. The higher camp made a lot of difference. Behind the camp, you can see Cordonnier.
The red line shows our line of ascent, which led to a great glissade on the way back down.

27 Jun 03 - All weekend, I seemed to be chasing after Dan and Blair. This peak was no exception.
They stayed about 50 yards in front of me, but this time would be a little different. I passed Dan
three feet from the summit cairn and beat him :-). If you look closely in this picture, you can see some sluffing
on the slope ahead. The snow was pretty good, so we didn't worry about a slide of any kind.

27 Jun 03 - Once up the face, you encounter a false summit, which is really part of the long ridge to the
true summit. This is where I started catching up with Dan, kind of like a shark to a swimmer.

27 Jun 03 - This is more of the summit ridge.

27 Jun 03 - Finally, the opportunity I was looking for. Blair and Dan stopped to take my picture,
and I passed them as they were putting their camera away. Nice guy huh.

27 Jun 03 - Here we are at the summit. This is Dan with Mt. Joffre in the background.

|
27 Jun 03 - This is Blair and I at the same summit. Joffre is still behind us.
