Vern and I did this trip by starting at the Stanley Mitchell Hut. We first hiked along the Iceline Trail, which starts out along the base of the Vice President (seen here).

There are a couple of nice little tarns along the way.

Basically, the Iceline Trail involves going up and over a bunch of moraines. In the background, you can see Wapta Mtn (center of photo). Yoho Lake is at the bottom left of Wapta Mtn, and our trail would go from Yoho Lake past the right side of Wapta Mtn to Burgess Pass.

Shortly before getting to Yoho Lake, we passed by Takakkaw Falls.

Soon after leaving Yoho Lake, we came across a sign announcing the Wapta Highline Trail. Upon initial sight, all we saw was the red stripes of the sign. We thought it meant the trail was closed. Fortunately, the sign is just pointing out that an area of fossils is closed on the slopes between Wapta Mtn and Mt. Field.

As we proceeded along the Wapta Highline Trail, the first mountain we came across is this one. At first, we thought it might be Mt. Field, but as Mt. Field would later reveal itself, it became obvious that this was Mt. Burgess.

Here we are at Burgess Pass, looking up at the scree slopes of Mt. Field. On a very hot day, this was a huge slog.

This is Vern, just above Burgess Pass. Here, it was obvious that we wouldn't need our ice axe or crampons, so we ditched those heavy items here, then proceeded with the inevitable scree slog.

From the western slopes of Mt. Field, a look to the north shows Wapta Mtn.

I never perform well in the heat, and this was a hot day. Here we see Vern pulling away from me.

Near the summit, you reach a cliff band. Here we see Vern climbing up through the cliff band. The summit is about five minutes past the cliff band.

From the summit, here is Wapta Mtn with its steep cliffs. Hard to believe that this is a scramble.

Here is Mt. Burgess as seen from the summit of Mt. Field.

This is Vern at the summit, with Mt. Stephen in the background.
