Field is a bit different than the rest of the areas. Being on the western side of the divide, this area receives a lot of snow, but once it comes into season (typically in July), the area is good for scrambling. Technical climbing is not really recommended because the rock here is rather crumbly.

The mountains themselves are not actually that high in total elevation, but this area boast some of the highest height gains because Field is in a deep valley. Mt. Stephen and Mt. Carnarvon are good examples of this. Because Field is in a deep valley, during late summer, this area can be very hot, often reaching temperatures in the mid-30s.
