Note for 29 Jul 97: When I woke up that day, I decided to take the day off and go hiking. I'm glad I did. This was a great hike, and I really enjoyed it. I was planning to catch some sun at the top, but when I got up there, a surprise lightening storm came up, causing me to run all the way back to the car. What a shame.

29 Jul 97 - There are two peaks to Mt. Kidd, the north and the south peaks. The north peak is higher, so that is the one I went to. To obtain this true summit, you must hike to the east side of the two peaks along the Kananaskis River, then proceed west up a drainage leading to a bowl. Eventually, the drainage will turn north leading you to the summit ridge.

29 Jul 97 - When you get to the run-off creek below the bowl, (on the east side) hike up the stream until you get deep into the gully between the north and south peaks. It only takes about 20 minutes to get to this point.

29 Jul 97 - As I got closer to the top of that gully, I started to come across snow. Then I turned right and went towards the north summit.

29 Jul 97 - It was VERY hot that day, and it was all I could do not to stand under this cold waterfall.

29 Jul 97 - At the summit, there is a repeater station. These things always bother me because of the "surprise" lightening storms that could come up in those hot summer afternoons. The south summit of Indefatigable has one too.

29 Jul 97 - Looking down from the top of Mt. Kidd, you can see the Kananaskis Golf Course and the Kananaskis River.

24 May 03 - This is from my second climb of Mt. Kidd. Doing the peak in early spring allows for an outstanding glissade taking you down about 3,000 ft in about 15 minutes. Doing the ascent in snowy conditions can be dangerous. If there is too much snow, you could end up in an avalanche. If there is not enough snow, you could miss out on a great glissade. Here we see Paul coming up on the summit with Mt. Assiniboine in the background on the right.

24 May 03 - This is one of Paul's pictures looking up the summit ridge following my footprints. Really cool photo. The unfortunate part about doing the scramble with lots of snow is that you can't always find the summit register.
