The Elbow/Kananaskis Valley is another great place to scramble. The rock is generally pretty strong, so your handholds and footholds are generally pretty safe. To get to this area, you go out the TransCanada Highway (Highway 1) from Calgary. After about 40 minutes, head south on highway 40.

Some of the mountains in this area are in the Bragg Creek Area, which would have a different set of directions. To get to Bragg Creek, go out highway 22x until you get to Bragg Creek. Continue west until you end up near Elbow Falls. From there you will end up in Eastern Kananaskis.

This is the front range and these mountains are generally the first to come into season. I can see these mountains from my office in downtown Calgary, so I can see how much snow is out there.
