Note for 28 Aug 04: This was a scramble with the RM Books WebBoard Group. I went with Sonny Bou, Frank Nelson, Pete Nelson, and Andrew Nugara. Dry conditions, and lot of wind after a brief shower at the Nihahi Ridge North summit. This trip was a continuation from the Nihahi Ridge Traverse. Click for the detailed report.

Before doing the Compression Ridge Traverse, we started the day with a south to north traverse of Nihahi Ridge. For the full set of pictures, check out the Nihahi Ridge Page.

Here we see part of Compression Ridge, as seen from the summit of Nihahi Ridge. Basically, the ridge makes a big horseshoe to the left (west).

This is the group coming off the summit of Nihahi Ridge, starting the traverse of Compression Ridge.

Here, we see (R to L) Pete, Andrew, and Sonny.

More of Compression Ridge. The summit is under the red dot.

There was some really cool scrambling along the ridge just before the summit. Lots of fun to be had.

Similar picture to the one in Kane's book, but he's right. This is very typical terrain.

Here we all are at the summit. L to R, we have Sonny, Pete, Andrew and Frank. In the background, you can see the summit of Nihahi Ridge.

Looking east, you can see the crux part of the ridge. I guess it's as crux as you want it to be. There are a lot of knobs along the ridge, and you can go over some, but not all. Once the ridge turns back to the north, the fun part is over, and you find yourself just wishing the trip was over.

Along this down slope from the summit, there are two windows. I went over the first one, but here is a picture of the second one. This one would be a lot harder to climb over.

I walked around to the east side of the window, just as Pete was climbing into the window. Hey Pete!!

This is looking back from the far north summit of Compression Ridge. It shows the entire horseshoe shaped ridge. If you stretched it out, it would be just as long as Nihahi Ridge.
