Note for 03 Aug 02: With with Taco Van Ieperen. We followed the connecting ridge from Allison to the true summit of Window Mtn, then dropped down to the actual window. Then we hiked out via the NE end of Ward back to the car.

15 Jul 00 - Here we see the Ward, Window, Allison trio on a great day. When I went back to do Window Mtn, there were thick clouds from 6,000 ft to about 8,500 ft. Unfortunately, Window Mtn was below the cloud, but Allison got me above the cloud. We bagged the Window summit on our way over from Allison, then we dropped down into the Window from the Window summit, then dropped down the scramble route from the Window and back to the car via the NE shoulder of Ward.

03 Aug 02 - This is on our way down from Allison to the Allison/Window col. Here we see Taco carefully moving down the loose rock. You want to stay close to the north edge of the ridge. The downclimbing might be a bit tougher, but you don't get lost.

03 Aug 02 - Just before the col, is the hardest downclimb. It's really not that difficult. We came down about three feet from the vertical part. It's the only point where I actually faced in to downclimb.

03 Aug 02 - Also from the col, here is where we start going back up the ridge to the summit of Window Mtn. This ridge was more exposed than that of Allison, but it wasn't any harder than the ridge on Pocaterra in Highwood Pass.

03 Aug 02 - Less than an hour from the Allison summit, Taco and I were on the summit of Window Mtn. There was a cairn, but no register. After a quick five minute rest stop, we went to find our way to the window (the actual goal of the scramble), then head back to the car.

03 Aug 02 - Getting from the summit to the window is pretty easy. The east side was a sheer drop-off, so that wasn't going to work. Taco and I then headed down on the west side, south of the window. When we got here, the route quickly turned into an overhanging downclimb. It would have been possible to continue lower, but we would have had more elevation to recover. Taco and I decided to go back to the summit ridge, cross the window and come down a well-worn scree trail to the window.

15 Jul 00 - This picture was taken from the summit ridge of Ward on a different day. It shows the Window, with Crowsnest and Seven Sisters in the background. Unfortunately, the summit of Window Mtn is barely cut out of the picture. The red line shows how we went from the summit to the window. The orange line shows how we went from the window back to the car.
