Crowsnest Pass
Note for 17 Jul 05: I went with Blair Piggot and Kevin Nemeth. We got an early start to beat the heat of the day, then went rock climbing the rest of the day. We stuck to the ridge direct, which made the scramble a lot more interesting. There were a couple of spots with some good exposure.

This is a fun little route, except for the very start. Immediately from the truck, you have to cross a creek. We searched around for a spot we could just hop across, but the trail on the other side of the creek seemed to make this spot the obvious crossing place. Perhaps this was a high-flow day, but the water was fairly deep. Here we see Blair crossing in his underwear. This is a good time not to wear thong underwear.

On the other side of the river, is a mining road. Follow this road along a couple of short switchbacks, until it ends in a basin. On the far end of the basin is a trail. Go there.

Once you break out of the trees, the views are rather nice. If you look closely, you can see Kevin (in red) coming up behind us.

Another picture of Kevin coming up. This climb was part of Kevin's bachelor party. Will this be his last climbing trip?

Further up the ridge, you have the option of sticking to the exposed ridge crest or scrambling below all of the fun spots. We chose to stick to the ridge. This is Blair showing some of the typical terrain.

Here is more of the ridge. As you can see, I was starting to lose ground on Blair.

You can see Blair on the far right edge of the picture. You can also see the summit in the distance.

Here we see myself coming up behind Blair.

More of me trying to catch up to Grampa Blair. My God, he's fast.

I've almost caught up with him.

From the looks of this picture, I passed him and reached the summit first :-)
