As you drive from Calgary to Banff, you will pass three mountains on the south side of the TransCanada Highway, known as the Three Sisters (shown here). The front mountain is known as Little Sister, which is good for rock climbing. The middle mountain is called Middle Sister, and is a scramble-able mountain. The back mountain is known as Big Sister. To get to Big Sister, you have to access it from Spray Lakes Rd and come from the south side (the back side) of it. I really enjoyed this hike.

28 Jun 97 - This is the south side of the mountain (the side you go up). Basically, you start off in the trees, but you quickly break the tree line. Once above the tree line, you walk along a ridge towards the top. Then you will come across a couple of Pinnacles, which you go around on the left, and on to the summitt.

28 Jun 97 - As you drive along Spray Lakes Rd. there is a good chance you will come across some mountain sheep. They love to linger around Chinaman's Peak and Goat Creek.

28 Jun 97 - On this particular day, the babies were out. This little fella didn't want to come down to the road. It was great watching them run around on the rocks. I wish I could climb like that.

28 Jun 97 - About half way up the ridge, this is the view back down to the car (circled in red).

28 Jun 97 - This is the first pinnacle. Remember, go around it on the left side.

28 Jun 97 - From the summit, you have a great view of the mountains in the Spray Lakes area, as well as part of the lake itself.

28 Jun 97 - Looking towards the southwest, you can see Mt. Assiniboine.

28 Jun 97 - Looking towards the northwest, you can see the town of Canmore.
