Waterton - Bears Hump
Note for 31 May 03: I went with Blair Piggot and Kevin Nemeth. It had been raining before we started, so the lichen was a bit wet and slippery. Nonetheless, the route was pretty easy and still a lot of fun.

31 May 03 - Much like Cusak's Crack, the routes on Bear's Hump is made up primarily of two rock bands. Here we see the lower rock band. To get to the lichen line route, you first should start with Lower Main (60m 5.5). From there, you get above the lower rock band. We then did the first pitch of Rosedale (50m 5.5), which brought us to the two large bulges. In the picture, we see Blair heading up toward the second bulge. Click here for an 800x600 version.

31 May 03 - While I was belaying Blair from the ledge between the two rock bands, A sheep came around the corner. Look closely at the bigger tree on the left side of it. Click here for an 800x600 version.

31 May 03 - From the two bulges, the next pitch traverses horizontally across some slab. Fortunately there is a 4-6 inch ledge for your feet and a nice crack about head-height for your hands. Traverse across this until you reach the second chimney. Then (in the same pitch) head up that second chimney (30m 5.5). From the top of the chimney, we switch to our scrambling boots, scrambled over some 5.2 climbing, then came to the lookout. Click here for an 800x600 version.
