Dave's Rock Climbs

Welcome to my Rock Climbing section. Of the various types of mountaineering, I must say that rock climbing is my weakness. I much prefer ice climbing, but rock climbing is one of those skills that you really need to have in order to be a well-rounded mountaineer.

There are actually three types of rock climbing. You have aid climbing, which is a type of climbing by using rope ladders (called Stirrups) and fixed protection. There isn't much technique required, but it does involve a lot of strength. The second type of climbing is called trad climbing. This is what most people think of when they hear the term 'rock climbing'. In trad climbing, you put in your own protection such as cams, nuts, wires, etc. The neat thing about trad climbing, is you aren't really sure if your protection would hold a fall. The third type of climbing is sport climbing. These are generally one pitch, and there are bolts for you to clip every few feet up the wall. For the most part, the bolts are solid and you really don't have to worry about falling.
