The raven is probably the most intelligent scavenger, and some of them are absolutely fat. These birds hang out near popular climbing areas and feed on what climbers and hikers leave them. They are all over the mountains, but ne of the more popular places to find them is near Bow Lake on the Icefields Parkway. Some of the birds hang out in the parking lot and wait for handouts. The ones in the parking lots are the size of chickens. They are huge. They are also very smart. While ice climbing Bow Falls, people typically leave their packs at the base. Well, the ravens not only know how to unzip a pack to get the food, but they know which zipper is most likely to lead to food (the top of the pack). The raven seen here was in a parking lot at Kluane Lake in the Yukon. It's hard to tell his size from the picture, but it was pretty big. ![]() ![]() ![]() |
