Dave's Wildlife Pictures: Hoary Marmot


These things are kind of neat. They look like a big rat, they sound like an eagle, and they aren't that popular. In my first couple of years of scrambling, the only place I would see them is on the east side of Heart Mountain's second summit.

  



But, then as time would go by, I've seen them all over the place. Perhaps they have the mating habits of rabbits. These next two pictures were taken in Larch Valley above Moraine Lake:
