Louise Falls
Total Height:
Technical Grade:
360 ft (110M)
WI 4+
Note for 07 Feb 99: I went with Tom Maier, Chris Wickens, and Kevin Yang. Temperatures were around -5°C (23°F). The first two pitches are pretty easy getting into the cave, but when it came time to lead out and around the pillar, nobody wanted to lead.

Note for 29 Dec 00: I went with Jim Kelly, Rob Davidson and John Ionescu. Temperatures were around -10°C (14°F). I was suffering from the pneumonia and generally wasn't doing well. After the first pitch, I had to rapell and watch the group from the ground.

Note for 09 Dec 01: I went with Rob Davidson and John Ionescu. Temperatures were around -8°C (17°F). Grade 3 to where the cave usually is. It was just a wet pillar, grade 5. John led it, Rob seconded it, and I rappelled back down. It's nice to know that one 60m rap will take you from the cave to the ground.

Note for 09 Nov 03: I went with Blair Piggot. Grade 3 to where the cave usually is. The pillar was in grade 5 condition, so we turned back and top roped the bottom part.

07 Feb 99 - This is Louise Falls in a good year. Notice how full the climb looks.

29 Dec 00 - Here we see Rob approaching the base of the climb.

29 Dec 00 - This is a closer look at the first pitch. It's good grade III ice. We went up on the right side of the guy in yellow.

29 Dec 00 - Here we see Jim from inside the cave.

29 Dec 00 - Now, we see John trying to get out of the cave and onto the final crux pillar. The ice was really bad here.

09 Dec 01 - It's all about conditions. Here we see Louise in rather thin conditions. The crux is a bit harder than normal here.

09 Dec 01 - This is a closer look at the crux.

09 Dec 01 - Here we see John leading the crux.
