Note for 25 Oct 98: We were only playing on the glacier, practising cravasse rescue and ice climbing. We did not attempt to actually summit; however, after talking to another party on the mountain, many snow bridges had fallen, thus making the upper glacier technically difficult. Weather was sunny, but on the north face, you are always in the shade. Temperatures varied from 0°C (32°F) to 5°C (41°F).

25 Oct 98 - To climb Stanley Peak, walk along the official trail to Stanley Glacier. After the 5 km trail ends, continue in the same direction to obtain the glacier. Once you climb onto the glacier, you will be faced with a 70 meter (230 feet) wall sloped at about 40 degrees. If you go further to the right, it's much steeper, going up to about 70 degrees. Once you climb to the top of that, you will see the summit, but in order to get to it, you must cross many cravasses. On this day, Chris and I were only practicing our cravasse rescue and ice climbing techniques, and had no intention of actually summiting. We came across this two man party, which was coming back down from the upper glacier. According to them, many of the ice bridges which crosses the various cravasses had fallen, thus making a trip to the summit very difficult. They did not make it (to the summit that is).

25 Oct 98 - Here we see the two guys (previously mentioned) repelling down the wall. They were using a 50 meter rope, so they had to put a screw in half way down the wall and repell from there.
